What Are Dentures?
Our team at Made Ya Smile Dental believes in helping patients achieve beautiful smiles at every stage in life. Losing your natural teeth can affect your oral function, self-confidence, and your appearance. To help you overcome the loss of several or all of your teeth, we offer aesthetic denture solutions. Our general dentists have extensive experience in replacing missing teeth for adults with custom removable partial and full dentures. Made of high-quality materials that offer a natural appearance, dentures from Made Ya Smile Dental can allow you to reestablish a youthful, confident smile after tooth loss. Dentures can help you maintain facial shape, eating, and speaking abilities, and are made to complement your unique facial features. These appliances are customized to fit your unique jaw structure and conveniently replace missing teeth.
Full dentures are used when all of the upper or lower teeth are missing or need to be replaced and are retained by the natural shape of the jaw or a small bit of adhesive. Partial dentures rely on existing teeth for support and fill spaces in the smile caused when several teeth are lost. Do not let tooth loss keep you from missing out on things you enjoy in life. If you are missing teeth and think dentures may be a good option, call our Sugar Land, TX team right now and schedule a denture consultation with one of our friendly, experienced general dentists.

Should I Get Dentures?
Dentures have come a long way over the years. We now use materials that look more like natural tooth and gum structures and are lighter in weight for greater comfort. You may be a good candidate for a partial or full removable denture if you have damaged teeth that cannot be restored or have lost a few or all of the teeth within an arch.
A partial denture may be a good choice if you still have teeth that are healthy enough to support a denture. Full dentures work best when the gum tissues are healthy and the underlying jawbone has contours that are sufficient enough to help hold the denture in place. In some cases, we may recommend attaching a full or partial denture to a set of dental implants placed in the jaw for a fixed denture option and enhanced support. Our dentists have created many custom dentures for patients and can help you determine if this tooth replacement option is right for you. During your consultation, we can present your options, review the benefits of each, and assist you in choosing the denture solution that best matches your oral health needs, cosmetic preferences, and budget.
How Do Dentures Work?
Custom dentures are made by taking an impression of your upper and lower arches. If you have teeth that need to be extracted and replaced with a denture, we will take an impression of your teeth before the extraction procedure so that we can create an immediate (temporary) denture for you to wear while your gum tissues heal and until your permanent appliance has been fabricated. We will send your impressions to our professional dental lab where your denture will be custom made to our specific instructions with the highest quality materials. Depending on your needs and preferences, your denture may be constructed of resin, metal framework, or lightweight acrylic material. Replacement teeth are also custom-designed to match remaining teeth in size, shape, and color for natural-looking and attractive appearance. After our lab completes your new dentures and they arrive at our Sugar Land practice, we will bring you back in to attach them to your implants or have you try them. We can make any necessary adjustments at that time to make sure they fit comfortably and securely in your mouth. Our friendly team will also provide you with tips on how to store, clean, and care for your new replacement teeth.
What Can I Expect After Getting Dentures?
In many cases, it may take a little while before you get used to your dentures. After you wear them for a short time, however, your new dentures should start to feel like part of your natural smile and you should be able to eat and speak with greater ease. Our dentists may recommend using a small amount of denture adhesive to ensure that full-arch appliances remain stable in your mouth, especially for upper dentures. Partial dentures are easy to place and remove from your mouth and attach firmly to your natural teeth through resin or metal clasps. When we deliver your dentures, our team will show you how to place and remove them and can make any adjustments to create a comfortable and secure fit. Our dentists can also adjust your denture over time if you notice changes in how it fits.
To keep your denture in top shape, it is important to use a toothbrush or denture brush with toothpaste to clean your appliance after each meal and soak your dentures in water at night while you sleep to keep them from shrinking and changing shape. Even though dentures are not natural tooth structures, we still recommend that you schedule routine cleaning and exam visits with our team at Made Ya Smile Dental. During these appointments, we can clean your denture to help remove stains and check the health of your jaw and gums. Dentures can last for several years when well-cared for but may need to be relined or replaced in the future.
Are Dentures Covered by Insurance?
Depending on your insurance plan, partial or full dentures may be covered in part for replacing your teeth. Made Ya Smile Dental accepts most PPO insurance plans and will file your procedure claims with your provider on your behalf. During your consultation, we can review your treatment options and customize your care to meet your oral health needs and budget. Our Sugar Land, TX practice accepts several easy payment methods, including low-interest financing through CareCredit®, to help you cover any out-of-pocket costs for your dentures.
Dentures FAQ
Can I wear dentures at night?
While all types of dentures can be worn at night, we recommend removing them before bed to allow your gums and jawbone an opportunity to relax. Dentures put continuous light pressure on those areas when worn, which is why it is not recommended that you wear your dentures for 24 hours. When you remove your dentures at night, you can perform proper denture care to keep your dentures long-lasting.
Does having dentures hurt?
Your new false teeth can cause discomfort and irritation as you get used to wearing them. Once you have adjusted to wearing them, the discomfort and irritation you are experiencing should ease. However, if you continue to feel irritation, don't hesitate to call our office so we can determine if you need to come in for an exam.
Are there any foods I can't eat with dentures?
Hard and sticky foods may be more challenging to eat as you get used to eating with your dentures. As you become comfortable eating with your dentures, you should be able to eat most foods without issue. It is not recommended that individuals with dentures chew gum. The gum can discolor and stick to the dentures and break the denture seal, resulting in loose teeth.
